About the Artist

Barbara Bryan
Creating is my happy place!
I was born in California and my family moved to Okemos Michigan when I was 5 years old. I am married and have always lived in the Lansing area. We have one daughter and son-in-love and two wonderful grandchildren.
My love for art started at an early age and really began to develop in high school under 2 wonderful teachers, Mrs. Fetters and Mr. Ray at Okemos High School. I was accepted into the Advance Placement Art program in high school which allowed me to take art classes at the college level and count them for high school credit at the same time. I then attended LCC with the idea I would become an art teacher. However, since I married young, I set art aside as I worked and began a family. However, art was never completely out of the picture since I have always had some kind of craft or art project happening. My love for art has also been passed down to my daughter and granddaughter, both express artistic talents.
Several years ago, I decided to get back to what I love and took an introduction to watercolor from Jim Ferguson at LCC. I have also been exploring acrylic painting methods; however, my first love is watercolor.
I retired from a Tech job 2020 which has allowed me to return to my love of creating. I have a studio in my home and hope to always have a space to create.
I currently paint using watercolor, acrylic painting and collage, I am self-taught in acrylic and collage. I am inspired by nature and animals as well as expressions of whimsy. The trees, leaves and flowers show my love for the outdoors. I also love to create prophetic works which are intended to invoke peace and healing for the soul.
You won’t see a specific style in my art because I love trying new mediums, materials, techniques, and subjects. I believe one of the best parts of art is the exploration in the creative process. Creating is my happy place!
I have sold work to a customer in South Africa, and locally to those who know me personally. I have previously displayed work at Gilead Healing Center on Creyts Road in Lansing, Hannah Center in East Lansing and several exhibits with Mid-Michigan Art Guild throughout the Lansing Area. I also taught art for a short time at House of Promise in Lansing which serves women who are rescued from trafficking.
